Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100 Digital Camera Black: Compact and Powerful
Some individuals may find ultra-compact cameras quite challenging to use. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100 Digital Camera Black is very ideal for those who need more size, power and functionality. It still features a very compact design and incorporates many of the features that you would want in a digital camera, considering that 12-mega-pixels are entering the scene by storm. Here are more traits.
The Design
The FX100's design is relatively similar to others in the FX-series. It features a 3.6x optical, 28 to 100 mm equivalent, f/2.8-to-f/5.6 zoom lens that extends from the front of the body when the camera is turned on. The zoom control appears as a ring around the shutter button which you can conveniently operate using your forefinger. The mode dial is located into the upper-right corner of the back of the camera. There are 5 small buttons to the right of the LCD which has dual functions as menu and quick controls. The LCD features 2.5 inches of 207,000 pixels.
Some of the functions include exposure compensation, flash, self-timer and review. There are buttons below for display and function/trash control. On top of the camera, you will find the E.Zoom and on/off slider button. You will get the far end of the optical zoom by pressing once, and a 7x zoom by pressing twice. The third press will lead to the widest angle. The button may cycle through the digital zoom regardless if you turn the button on or off in the menus.
About the Features
There are not a lot of manual exposure controls in the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100 Digital Camera Black because of its compact form. However, there are 20 present scene modes that can help you adjust during unusually difficult shooting situations. There are some features that can improve blur. Hand shakiness can be controlled using the Mega OIST lens-shift stabilization. You can analyze motion in subjects and automatically heightens the ISO depending on the selected limits in the menu to avoid blur from fast-moving objects. The Intelligent ISO control does this efficiently.
The Intelligent ISO control can be quite useful if you do not intend to manually set the ISO to enhance shutter speed. The FX100 can keep the ISO in the lowest possible state as long as the subject is still, thereby reducing image noise when the lighting is not very good. You get to choose from 4:3, 16:9 and 3:2 aspect ratios, just in case you wish to view the images on a digital photo frame or TV. The DMC-FX100 has good shutter lag times. Start up is around 2.4 seconds while JPGs took around 2.3 seconds between shots. With the flash on, taking shots were spaced 2.9 seconds apart.
The Package
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100 Digital Camera Black's package includes the 12.2 effective megapixel Lumix DMC-FX100 camera, battery charger, CGA-S005 lithium-ion rechargeable battery, USB cable, A/V cable, wrist strap, CD-ROM which includes ArcSoft Photo Suite, Lumix Simple Viewer, PhotoFunStudio and other drivers and the 131-page printed camera manual.
The camera features built-in memory instead of a memory card. There is a total of 27 megabytes of memory. You can, however, add a memory card to equal the 12MP. Cards used include SD, SDHC and MMC. The battery has 4.3 Wh of energy which is good for about 320 shots.
