Review: Sony Bravia KDL32L4000

The Sony LCD TV Bravia series has been referred to as “legendary”. Most probably, the reason for such a branding lies on the technology itself. This television series from Sony is indeed one of the premier technologies when it comes to viewing entertainment today. Sony has made it a point to do so. From product research to technology innovations to high level sales marketing approach,  Sony televisions call out quality, the best in the market, and equipped with high tech features. Let’s take a look at one.

The 32-inch Sony KDL32L4000 LCD flat screen TV is one of the later models in the Bravia series. For those who still don’t know, BRAVIA is actually an abbreviation, the long versions being “Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture”. Try putting that on the front of your TV. Anyway, the KDL32L4000 is already HD ready. This means you can enjoy HDTV as well as all the benefits of other HD peripherals such as your HD handycams, your Blu-ray players, and other up and coming devices including game consoles that use HD technology. A twin HDMI socket maximizes the capabilities of the TV for accommodating these HD devices.

With a price range of about £350, the Sony KDL32L4000 is a great value considering the features Sony incorporated with the unit. For example, this Bravia, aside from the HDMI sockets, also has two SCART, a component and S-Video input sockets, and a VGA adapter to allow you to use it as your computer monitor. Get a good video card if you want to squeeze the best resolution out of your KDL32L4000.

Other notable additions from the earlier Bravia include an integrated standard definition digital terrestrial tuner with an MPEG-2 that also receives analogue. The screen quality gives you rich colours and true, deep blacks due to the 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio which is quite a step-up from the previous model releases. And speaking of the screen, at 32 inches, the viewing angle has been set at an ultra-wide 178 degrees. You can get the best view from almost any angle possible. There’s no need to scramble for the front, centre seat whenever there’s a family gathering.

The old models have a stand for the Bravia TV but the KDL32L4000 is already equipped with a wall mountable bracket which gives you an additional option for installing your TV in your home. Admittedly, the space this design improvement could save is small but the added feature allows you to be more creative in arranging your furniture or designing your entertainment room.

Power consumption is basically in the range of what it should be for LCD televisions. Having it on standby consumes less than 0.5 watts. On the other hand, the 32-inch televisions will consume around 155 watts when turned on. Not bad.

Another plus for the Sony KDL32L4000 is the matt black frame design. For one thing, this black matt finish will fit any interior design you already have and for another the finish is anti-reflective which enhances your viewing pleasure. No more glare from the side of the television.

The Sony KDL32L4000 is indeed a good buy. It has more than enough features to accommodate your daily viewing and even occasional gaming needs or vise versa depending on your preference. The make and design is top notch and I can’t think of asking for more.
